What is Orthodontics?


     Orthodontics is the oldest specialty in dentistry. It involves the treatment of tooth malpositions, bite disorders, and growth inbalance of the jaws with a variety of appliances that range from fixed braces to removable retainers. Treatment will be rendered by Dr. Perillo who completed a four year doctoral degree in dentistry with additional years of specialized orthodontics training and is a licensed specialist in the State of New Jersey. Dr. Perillo has been in private practice for over three years in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and maintains a faculty position at the University of Pennsylvania.

At What Age Should I Seek Treatment?

     Children should be seen by age 7 since early diagnosis enables Dr. Perillo to prescribe the most effective course and timing of treatment in order to minimize future problems. Our practice welcomes children and adults alike. There is no age limit for enjoying the benefits of orthodontic treatment. Nearly on-third of all orthodontic patients are over the age of 18.


How Long Will Treatment Take & How Frequent Are Appointments?

     An average full-treatment orthodontic case takes approimately 18 to 26 months to complete. Treatment time may differ depending upon individual therapeutic requirements and severity of the bite. Frequency between visits will vary from approximately 3 to 8 weeks.


How Much Does Orthodontic Treatment Cost?

     There is a broad range of fees in our practice depending upon the type of treatment rendered (Braces vs. retainer appliance) case severity, and length of treatment. A financial arrangement can be made to extend payments over a period of several months and there will be a fee reduction when more than one family menber is being treated
